			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Who knew cucumbers were good for more things than just our health?  Yup, anything from curing a hangover, bad breath and CELLULITE??!!  Yup, this was an interesting article that was shared with me, so in turn, I had to share with you all.    I knew cucumbers were good for you, but this just takes it&#8217;s goodness to a whole new level.</p>

<p>I will never look at a cucumber the same again.  <span style="text-decoration: underline;">LISTEN UP LADIES</span>&#8230;some great tips below.</p>

<p>1.   <strong>Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day</strong>, just one cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc.</p>

<p>2. <strong>Feeling tired in the afternoon?</strong> put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours.</p>

<p>3. <strong>Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower?</strong> Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance.</p>

<p>4. <strong>Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds?</strong> Place a few slices in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long. The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area.</p>

<p>5.  <strong>Looking for a fast and easy way to remove cellulite before going out or to the pool?</strong> Try rubbing a slice or two of cucumbers along your problem area for a few minutes, the phytochemicals in the cucumber cause the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite. Works great on wrinkles too!!!</p>

<p>6. <strong>Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache?</strong> Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in  equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache!!</p>

<p>7. <strong>Looking to fight off that afternoon or evening snacking binge? </strong>Cucumbers have been used for centuries and often used by European trappers, traders and explores for quick meals to thwart off starvation.</p>

<p>8. <strong>Have an important meeting or job interview and you realize that you don&#8217;t have enough time to polish your shoes?</strong> Rub a freshly cut cucumber over the shoe, its chemicals will provide a quick and durable shine that not only looks great but also repels water.</p>

<p>9. <strong>Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge? </strong>Take a cucumber slice and rub it along the problematic hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone!</p>

<p>10. <strong>Stressed out and don&#8217;t have time for massage, facial or visit to the spa?</strong> Cut up an entire  cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water, the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber with react with the boiling water and be released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has been shown the reduce stress in new mothers and college students during final exams.</p>

<p>11. <strong>Just finish a business lunch and realize you don&#8217;t have gum or mints?</strong> Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the phytochemcials will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.</p>

<p>12. <strong>Looking for a &#8216;green&#8217; way to clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel?</strong> Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean, not only will it remove years of tarnish and bring back the shine, but is won&#8217;t leave streaks and won&#8217;t harm you fingers or fingernails while you clean.</p>

<p>13. <strong>Using a pen and made a mistake?</strong> Take the outside of the cucumber and slowly use it to erase the pen writing, also works great on crayons and markers that the kids have used to decorate the walls!!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I made this delectable salad for our 4th of July BBQ and it was a HIT!! So easy and refreshing. I know we are always looking for healthy, fun and refreshing salad, so here you go:</p>

<p><strong>Pre-Prep:</strong></p>
<p><br class="spacer_" /></p>
<p>1/2 cup chopped red onion</p>
<p>1/2 cup lime juice (4-6 limes, depending on how large and juicy the limes are)</p>
<p>1/4 of a medium sized watermelon, rind removed, black seeds removed (if there are any), chopped into 1-inch cube-ish pieces, about 8 cups</p>
<p>1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese</p>
<p>1/2 cup fresh chopped mint leaves</p>
<p>1/2 cup fresh chopped parsley leaves</p>

<p><strong>Put it together:</strong></p>
<p><strong>1.</strong> Soak the chopped red onion in the lime juice while you are prepping the other ingredients.  Roughly               15 minutes.</p>
<p><strong>2.</strong> Gently combine all ingredients into a large serving bowl.</p>

<p><strong>**TIP:</strong> Serve immediately. Salad will get soggy if kept overnight.</p>

<p>So I&#8217;ve done the 3-Day cleanse once before, although didn&#8217;t track my daily feelings and experience, so 2nd time around, I decided it was necessary to share it.</p>

<p>Here’s my journal in detailing my 2<sup>nd</sup> experience with the 3-Day Shakeology cleanse.  If you haven’t already, check out my post on <a href="http://choose2befit.com/2010/04/29/the-science-behind-the-shakeology%C2%AE-3-day-cleanse/">The Science Behind the Shakeology Cleanse</a>.  Please do your research, don’t go in blindly looking for a quick fix.</p>

<p>Here is the general <a href="http://choose2befit.com/2010/03/15/shakeology-3-day-cleanse/">menu</a> that I followed, as previously mentioned in an earlier blog post.</p>

<p><strong>Day 1:</strong></p>
<p><br class="spacer_" /></p>
<p>Although the day started out a little rough, not due to the cleanse, but more of my  kids waking up on the wrong side of the bed, the day quickly changed for the better as we got through the day.  The cleanse has so far treated me well!  Although I’ve done the cleanse before, I still am surprised at the energy and lack of bloat I felt, just after the end of Day 1.  Wonderful feeling.</p>
<p><br class="spacer_" /></p>
<p>I decided to switch the schedule around a tad, as I teach 2 group fitness classes on Tuesday’s, not to mention had my own workout in the AM.  So instead of having the salad for dinner, I elected to have it for lunch, store my veggie and lean (white) protein spinach salad as energy and fuel to get through my classes, and end my day with a tasty Greenberry Shakeology.  It was a wonderful way to cap off the evening, coupled with some Yogi Peach Detox tea.</p>
<p><br class="spacer_" /></p>
<p>Time to head to bed, gear up for tomorrow’s P90X workout – Shoulders/Arms &amp; Ab Ripper X.  I know a good night’s rest is in the cards, and as I recall from last cleanse, I slept like a baby each night.</p>

<p>I’m thrilled I can experience this journey with my fellow cleansing friends – Beverly, Donna, Jayn, Tim, Jessica and all others that are doing it well.  Great encouragement to get by.  I mean, it’s only 3 days, right??</p>

<p><strong>Day 2:</strong></p>
<p><br class="spacer_" /></p>
<p>Well day started off on the right foot with a great workout – P90X Shoulders/Arms &amp; Ab Ripper X.  This week I’m focusing on lifting heavy and I was amazed at the strength I had being on this cleanse.  Noticing some major definition – but ladies, its LEAN definition.  No bulk here.</p>
<p><br class="spacer_" /></p>
<p>My energy was up the entire day and I didn’t feel hungry with how I spaced out my shakes and salad.  I was nervous on  how I was going to work around  my day in my daughter’s Co-Op classroom, but I came prepared and make up my shake before I left and stored it in the fridge to enjoy during their snack time.  While all the kids and parents enjoyed a great spread of veggies, fruit, Ting-Tings and a homemade gluten free snack bar, I sipped away, guilt and regret free.  Not to mention, I shared my experience with a few of the Mom’s.</p>
<p><br class="spacer_" /></p>
<p>In talking with my friends that are joining me on the cleanse, they have already experienced great results – losing from 2.5 to 6 lbs in just 2 days.  I haven’t stepped on the scale, as I have a superstition to wait until the final day, so I can really enjoy the full results.</p>

<p>So, ending the day with a great attitude, fun filled with the kids and great energy.  Looking forward to tomorrow and what the day begins.  I know it will start off great, as Yoga X is on the docket.</p>

<p><strong>Day 3:</strong></p>

<p>Final day.  I’m feeling awesome, really.  I have tons of energy.  Less bloat, less desire for the bad stuff and overall clarity.  I’ll take that.  Today’s workout was Yoga X and it felt wonderful.  I felt more fluidity in my poses and strength in holding form longer.  The cleanse or just gaining strength?  Hmm…jury’s out. Regardless, I was stoked.</p>

<p>Again, I opted to have my salad for lunch, instead of dinner.  I found that gave me that mid-day boost to fire through the rest of the day, and allowed me to unwind from the day with my final Shakeology after I got home from my Thursday evening class I teach.</p>

<p>There you have it.  3-Day cleanse came and went.  I plan to do this once a month or every other month.  This feeling of clarity is addicting!!</p>

<p><strong>FINAL RESULTS</strong> – 5 lbs down and an inch of my waistline.  Now, I’m not saying that my overall goal was to drop weight (that came as a bonus), but more of clean out the “gunk” that gets built up.  Mission accomplished.</p>

Compared to the much more popular Master Cleanse, it&#8217;s like an all-you-can-eat buffet. Traditional cleansing diets are done to rid your system of toxins and bring it into homeostasis. They also contain a spiritual aspect. This process can take a long time, which is why you may have seen coworkers walking around the office in a zombie-like state for weeks on end—swilling a strange concoction of lemons and maple syrup.</p>
<p>The Shakeology cleanse is nothing like that. Depending on how you decide to do it, you&#8217;ll be eating frequently and consuming between 800 and 1,200 calories per day, and it could be even more should you feel the need. The point of this cleanse is not calorie restriction, per se—it&#8217;s nutrient efficiency. The aim is to get the most nutrients possible into the fewest number of calories. The goal is to put all of these calories to use as a part of your exercise program, to rid your body of undigested foods and toxins, and to bring your hydration levels into homeostasis. The result you&#8217;re after is not weight loss—though it will likely occur—but for your body to be running more efficiently. This should make you feel lighter and more energetic, even though you&#8217;re doing an exercise program.</p>

<p><strong>How It Works</strong><br />
 Your eating structure doesn&#8217;t change. You still eat every few hours while you&#8217;re awake. Each meal should have a balance of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and fiber. And while you&#8217;re not eating as much food as you&#8217;d normally eat, your calorie-to-nutrient ratio is extremely high. This means that you shouldn&#8217;t restrict the actual nutrients you&#8217;re getting by too much, so activity can continue as normal.</p>
<p>We recommend you try to keep your shakes to just Shakeology. Adding fruits of any kind, or seeds (for fat and fiber), or the Shakeology Fiber supplement, can and should be done as you see fit.</p>
<p>Ditto for your one solid meal—a salad. As we all know from any salad bar, the definition of salad can be varied. The goal of the salad in the plan is to keep your calories coming from natural sources (no artificial ingredients should be added, including artificial salad dressing). Aside from that, you can add ingredients as necessary. Keep your meat intake to four ounces or less, but add veggies, seeds, nuts, fruits, and legumes in quantities to satiate you.</p>
<p>The goal of the Shakeology <em>3-Day Cleanse</em> is to optimize your performance. You want to eat enough to fuel your day AND your workout. The foods you&#8217;re eating are so high in fiber and nutrients that it&#8217;s virtually impossible to overeat. You&#8217;ll be consuming so much fiber, along with enzymes and digestive aids, that your body&#8217;s ability to flush excess foods quickly will be at its peak.</p>

<p><strong>What to Drink</strong><br />
 Water, of course, is recommended in quantity. This is vital to any cleanse, because one of your goals is to bring your hydration into homeostasis. When your electrolytes are out of balance—the main problem we have is salt—you often retain water outside of your cells. This situation, which we refer to as retaining water, is cured by drinking more water. As the excess salts are diffused, your body begins to hydrate your cells (using sodium as it should be used) and flush the water held outside the cells. So, oddly enough, you drink water to eliminate water retention.</p>
<p>Sodas, alcohols, juices, etc., should be eliminated entirely during a cleanse. Coffee and tea, which are diuretics, should be minimized at the very least and eliminated if possible. Again, performance is the key, so if you need a cup of Joe as a pick-me-up, go ahead. Just use only as needed, and don&#8217;t use additives. Eliminating sugar and chemicals is vital. However, do not use energy drinks or soda for this purpose, including the ones with artificial sweeteners. Coffee drinkers may find that switching to black tea during a cleanse will give you the energy you&#8217;re looking for with less upset. Coffee&#8217;s acidic nature can heighten the effects in a negative way during your cleanse.</p>

<p><strong>Why You Won&#8217;t Lose Weight</strong><br />
 I should say why you <em>might not</em> lose weight, but I wanted to get your attention. Most people will lose some weight during a cleanse, but that is not the goal. Those with a lot of undigested gunk in their systems will lose weight as it&#8217;s flushed out. Those of you who are properly hydrated and already eat well are less likely to lose. For those of you who need to lose weight, take heart: you are setting up your system to use nutrients more efficiently and improving your ability to lose weight through structured diet and exercise. So while you may not lose much on the cleanse, you&#8217;ll be more prepared to lose weight later.</p>
<p>Another reason why we don&#8217;t always lose weight on cleanses is due to a stress hormone called cortisol. Restricting calories is stressful to the body, and it reacts by releasing cortisol. Cortisol is performance-enhancing in the short term, but if you somehow keep your body stressed for long periods, it creates havoc in your system and can cause you to doggedly hang onto weight in a type of survival mode. We don&#8217;t want this to occur, which is one reason the Shakeology <em>3-Day Cleanse</em> is short. It&#8217;s important not to remain in a highly calorie-deficient state for long periods of time, especially when you are trying to exercise hard.</p>

<p><strong>Q:  (Part 1) If I have one Shakeology a day, as suggested for my meal replacement, do I need to continue to take my multi-vitamin?</strong></p>
<p>A:  It depends.  If you are fairly active, meaning doing a high intensity program such as P90X, Insanity or ChaLEAN Extreme, your body is using up far more vitamins and nutrients, than a daily serving found in Shakeology.  So, in that case, you should continue with your daily Activit or multi-vitamin, although strongly suggested to take it at the same time you enjoy your Shakeology.  If you are doing a lower impact fitness regime, Shakeology should suffice with your daily vitamin  intake.  If you have further questions, always a good idea to consult your physician.</p>

<p><strong>Q:  (Part 2) If I take Activit (or any daily multi) each day, when is the best time to take that?  Before or after Shakeology?</strong></p>
<p>A:  During.  It’s strongly recommended to take your multi-vitamin with you Shakeology, as the digestive enzymes found in Shakeology, will aid your body in absorbing all of those nutrients, quicker, than if taken alone.  (NOTE: never a good idea to take a multi-vitamin on an empty stomach).</p>
